Margaret Rickel was born in Syracuse, where she first started dance. Upon moving to Rochester, at age five she began training at Little Red Dancing School under Lisa Allain. At age 13, Margaret continued her training at the Draper Center for Dance Education. During her time at Draper she performed with the school and company, Rochester City Ballet, under direction of Jamey Leverett. After graduating high school, Margaret moved to Sarasota, Florida to attend the Margaret Barbieri Conservatory of the Sarasota Ballet. At age 19 Margaret was offered a professional contract with New York State Ballet back in her hometown, Rochester, which she danced from 2016 to the Fall of 2018. She performed title roles such as Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Carmen in Carmen, and Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, original ballets choreographed by associate artistic director, Sarah Rothrock-Rickel. While under contract here she also performed ballets choreographed by Robert Royce and Zachary Frazee. This is Margaret’s first season with the Rochester City Ballet.
