Ryo Munakata

I started classical ballet training when I was 5 at Etoile Ballet Studio and studied under Misako Kawamura, Sergiy Savoschenko and other renowned instructors. I began entering in dance competitions at the age of 10. I expanded my horizons and started taking modern ballet lessons with Yuko Takahashi when I was 13. Since 2010, I studied at the Summer Intensive Program of the American Ballet Theatre in New York by recommendation of a dance instructor, Hilary Cartwright, every summer. I trained at Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at ABT from 2014-2016 and Manhattan Youth Ballet from 2015-2016. I joined Minnesota Ballet as a Company member from 2016-2018, then Ballet West as a Company member from 2018-2019 where I performed “Rubies” and “Diamonds” in Balanchine’s Jewels. I returned to Minnesota ballet for the 2019-2020 season and Joined Rochester City Ballet for the 2020-2021 season.
In 2018 I was a Finalist in the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson and a semi-finalist in the International Ballet Choreography Competition in Beijing in 2019.
