Nazareth College Arts Center will become the official home of the Rochester City Ballet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth College announced more than $5 million in gifts for its Arts Center with New York State Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle, chairman of the Assembly's committee on the arts; Assemblyman David Gantt, dean of the Rochester Assembly delegation; the Sands family; the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation; the John and Jayne Summers Foundation; M&T Bank; and Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP. Morelle and Gantt have secured $2 million in state funds, along with Assemblymember Susan John (D-131st District), and Assemblyman David Koon (D-135th District). The total gift, combining the state's $2 million and the private donor gifts, is $5.2 million and it will be used toward the $6 million renovation of the Nazareth College Arts Center.

Another major announcement is that the new Nazareth College Arts Center will become the official home of the Rochester City Ballet.

The Arts Center renovation project will include three main components: converting the current thrust stage to a proscenium stage, constructing a brand-new art gallery, and building a formal entrance to the Nazareth College Arts Center.

"After hearing about (Nazareth) President (Daan) Braveman's vision to turn the Nazareth College Arts Center into a focal point for regional dance, our family wanted to do all that we could to bring his vision to life," said Rob Sands, president and chief operating officer of Constellation Brands, Inc. "Our family has long been involved with the Rochester City Ballet and we are pleased to be a part of the Arts Center's transformation into a superior venue for dance."

While continuing to offer performances by Rochester Children's Theatre, Nazareth students, Rochester City Ballet, Garth Fagan Dance and other national and international companies, President Braveman spoke of eventually adding a summer dance festival to present well-known dance companies. It would enhance the arts scene in Rochester and boost the economy by bringing more tourists to the region.

"I am proud to join my Assembly colleagues and our private sector partners in funding a project that will enhance the profile of Nazareth College, both regionally and beyond, and will create a spectacular new home for the Rochester City Ballet," said Assemblyman Koon.

The Rochester City Ballet (RCB), founded in 1987, is a non-profit, educational corporation. The company presents a full season of quality dance to diverse audiences and helps keep the arts alive by presenting performances to educate and entertain adults and children at community events and special RCB performances. The RCB has created at least 20 new ballets including Firebird, Don Quixote, Cinderella and the annual Nutcracker.
